AutoUser
is a program that was developed by The Center for Student Computing
and is used to create all student network accounts on campus. AutoUser
extracts data from the Banner student information system, such as the
classes that you have registered for and computer labs you may be using.
It combines this data with lab specific information such as which classes
qualify to use a particular lab, and what resources the users of that
lab require access to. The program then creates network accounts, and
assigns resources for the students that qualify.

If you have a problem
with your network account you can contact the Center for Student Computing
at 863-8390 for help.
If you are having
trouble using your network account it could be due to a number of
things:
- Using an incorrect
password.
- You
should be aware that your network password will be the
same in all labs
- Typing
the wrong password. When you login the first time,
your password is your birthdate. If your birthdate
has a single digit such as '2' for February, the number is
padded with a '0'. For example, if you were born February
4, 1907, your password is 020407. You are encouraged
to change your password so that others can't use your accounts. THE
OPENLABS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DATA'S SECURITY! Choose
a password that is easy to remember and easy to type, but
not one that will be easy to guess.
- Typing the
password incorrectly. Take your time when entering your
password. If you make a mistake you can either correct the
mistake, or re-enter the password
- Forgetting
your password. If you have forgotten your password
we can't look it up, the only thing you can do is contact
the lab assistant about changing it.
- You haven't
been authorized to use the lab that you are trying to use.
- Access to most
labs is granted either by being enrolled in a class that has
been granted access to that lab, or by paying a lab acccess
fee for the lab you want to access.
- If you have
not paid your tution and student fees on time, your classes
could be dropped. If your classes are dropped, your network
and E-mail accounts will be deleted. This sometimes happens
to students who are waiting for financial aid money to cover
registration fees due. Make sure all tution and student fees
are paid or make arrangements through registration to prevent
your classes from being dropped.
- If you change
classes or add classes late make sure that all of the paper
work for those changes are completed and turned in.
- Fileserver
and Network problems.
- The college's
network is made up of many fileservers and network devices
that combine to deliver Internet access, E-mail, printing,
and application software to each computer's desktop.
- Save your
work often and keep a backup of your work. When there
are network or power problems, you will be glad you did!
- Be sure
to keep your work not only on a disk, but also on the network. Disks
will become corrupted over time resulting in the loss of
that 40 page term paper you just finished.
